CUBAN RUMBA

Cuban Rumba is a rich, expressive dance and music tradition that comes from the Afro-Cuban communities of the island. It's more than just movement—it's rhythm, culture, history, and storytelling all in one. With strong roots in African and Spanish traditions, rumba is an essential part of Cuba’s cultural identity.

In this class, we’ll explore the three primary forms of rumba:

  • Yambú – slow, smooth, and elegant. Often considered the most gentle form of rumba.

  • Guaguancó – a playful and flirtatious dance between a leader and a follower, full of rhythmic exchanges.

  • Columbia – fast-paced and powerful. Traditionally a solo dance with improvisation and strong percussion focus.
